The project area is located in the “Western Mediterranean Basin” within the borders of Milas district of Muğla province in the south of the Aegean Region.

While Bodrum was a quiet and beautiful town until the 1970s, the Bodrum District and Bodrum Peninsula have become very popular in parallel with the revival of tourism activities in Turkey and the increase in the desire to acquire a summer residence on the coast. As a result, a population explosion was observed, especially in the summer months. Parallel to this, the need for water increased and the available resources were insufficient. The aim of the project is to supply drinking water to the Bodrum Peninsula, and for this purpose, Bodrum Dam is planned to contribute to the drinking water needs of Bodrum District.

With the dam, it is planned to provide 13.17 hm³ of annual flow as drinking water for Bodrum Peninsula.
